Prairie Heart Herb Fest

I love adventures!  I had the most fun ever at the Prairie Heart Herb Fest in Leavenworth, KS! The event was held at 80 Acres home of Prairie Wise Herbal School . This experience will forever be a wonderful memory. I met so many lovely people.  The speakers were awesome. New Adventures

Here we are....two kooks! We've been married almost 40 years and are still as kooky as ever. It is said that 'time flies when you're having fun'. We met when I was 15 and he was 17. The adventure began! We married quite young...I was only 17 and he 19! Six children later, we are now approaching retirement! Wow!  In four short years 'hubby' will retire!  But, we won't wait for retirement to have adventures. We both love gardening around our little 'farmette'. We both love camping. We both enjoy hiking and biking. We both enjoy fishing. We both love spending time with our 8 grandchildren! And when the day is done you will find us  both snoozing in our recliner rockers! You just gotta love life and live it out loud!

Stop and Smell the Roses

Beautiful Pink Roses I am enjoying these beauties this spring!  A neighbor down the country road from us gave me a tiny little rose bush start a couple of years ago. This year they are showing off their splendor! I love drying rose petals and making potpourri.  I will definitely have plenty of pink roses!  Here is a lovely website that shares how to make Rose Potpourri  Spring, Summer and Fall are super busy times here on our little 'farmette'. There's lots of planting, tilling, pulling weeds, gathering herbs, picking veges, making herbal remedies, preserving food, and soooo much more! I plant various garden locations on our almost five acres with fun settee spots on purpose. I have to take the time to 'smell the roses'  and enjoy the beauty of all of the flowers. Otherwise, I would be 'wore slick out'. Here are a few roses that I am drying: Here are two grand-daughter 'rose buds'  So, I encourage y

Stinging Nettles I love spring time! The wild herbs are growing strong! Stinging nettles (Urtica dioica) grow abundantly here in Missouri. This is my first year to harvest and dry them. I usually order dried nettle for my infusions. I'm so excited to dry my own! After cutting the nettles (wearing gloves of course), I cut off leaves and place on my dehydrator screen.   I also tie some together to hang in my attic to dry.  I hang the nettles in paper bags to keep dust off of them while they dry.  The result is beautiful, green nettles to be used for medicinal uses! My favorite way to consume nettles is an infusion. Visit my Herb Health page to learn how to make infusions. Drinking infusions is a wonderful way to benefit from various herbs! Elderberries

Image
Well it is February and I'm planning my gardens! I received my Elderberry cuttings from  River Hills Harvest With cold and flu season in full swing there is  relief and healing from Elderberries. Elderberries are known for the prevention of an upper respiratory infection and helps to  shorten the duration of a cold or the flu. The berries help coughs, sore throats, asthma and flu. Elderberries do grow wild here in Missouri. Commercial elderberry crops are becoming more popular however. Elderberries are used for wine making, dietary supplements, jams and pies. My personal interest in growing Elderberry bushes is the medicinal properties of the berries and the flowers. A great way for you to learn about making  herbal remedies is to join our monthly group meetings here at Heritage Home~Place. Our 'Lifestyle of Living' health and wellness group meets on the first Tuesday of each month. It is a fun hands-on learning experie

Stay Strong

Image
Inspired by my mother's journey and victory through breast cancer, I have been challenged to make a difference in other women's lives. Our 'Lifestyle of Living' health and wellness group of women meet here in my  home each month to learn and grow together.  We do hands-on projects that are fun and educational.  One of the ladies in our group has also gone through breast cancer.  She meets with a group of women each month that are going through cancer treatment.  She is such an inspiration to these precious women that are  staying strong through their journey. Our 'Lifestyle of Living' health and wellness group have an on-going project to encourage these special ladies.  We put together gift bags filled with inspiring gifts. We want women going through cancer of any type to know that we are praying for them  and standing with them. We invite you to join us. If you would like to donate to this cause please contact me via e-mail: heri

Love Is

God's Valentine Gift God's Valentine gift of love to us Was not a bunch of flowers; It wasn't candy, or a book To while away the hours. His gift was to become a man, So He could freely give His sacrificial love for us, So you and I could live. He gave us sweet salvation, and Instruction, good and true-- To love our friends and enemies And love our Savior, too. So as we give our Valentines, Let's thank our Lord and King; The reason we have love to give Is that He gave everything. By Joanna Fuchs   What Valentine Can I Give Him? What can I give to Jesus On this special Valentine's Day? How can I tell Him I'll love Him, And follow Him, come what may? How can I show I need Him? Should I send a red heart, with lace? How can I thank Him enough For his sacrifice, love and grace? What Valentine can I give Him, My adoration to impart? I'll give to Him what He wants most; I'll yield to Him my heart.
